IITH Holds Sensitization on Asset Declaration, Rector Urges Staff Compliance

The International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (IITH) recently organized a sensitization exercise on asset declaration in collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), with the Rector, Prof. Apuega Arikawei, urging all staff members to fully comply with the ongoing exercise.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Arikawei welcomed the delegation from the Bureau and emphasized the importance of active participation by staff members. He encouraged participants to ask questions where necessary and ensure the accurate completion of the asset declaration forms.

Speaking on behalf of the State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Jonathan Asigo, the team lead, Mr. Johnson Dinini, explained that asset declaration is a mandatory constitutional requirement for all public officers. He noted that the exercise, which is conducted every four years, applies to employees at the local, state, and federal government levels.

Mr. Dinini further stated that the newly introduced asset declaration form contains several changes from the previous version, necessitating the sensitization programme.

“The new asset declaration form contains some differences from the previous version. That is why we are here to guide staff and ensure the forms are filled correctly without errors,” he said.

Also speaking during the session, Mr. Waibowei Tarikebi, the desk officer assigned to the institute, reassured staff members that the Bureau’s objective is to promote compliance rather than victimization.

“The Bureau is here to protect staff. Failure to declare assets can lead to forfeiture, so we encourage everyone to take this exercise seriously and utilize the support provided by the team,” he said.

The sensitization exercise underscores IITH’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and full compliance with federal regulations. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, which provided staff members with the opportunity to seek clarifications and gain a better understanding of the asset declaration process.
