Senior administrators and heads of tertiary institutions across Bayelsa State recently gathered for a high-level capacity-building workshop hosted by the Niger Delta University Business School. The one-day event, held on Tuesday, 16th June 2026, focused on strengthening procurement systems in higher education institutions for improved efficiency and accountability.
The workshop, themed “Re-engineering the Procurement System in Tertiary Institutions in Bayelsa State for Efficient Service Delivery,” took place at the NDU Business School along Isaac Boro Road, Okaka Junction, Yenagoa.
In her welcome address, the Dean of the NDU Business School, Prof. (Mrs.) Miebi Ugwuzor, explained that the workshop was designed for procurement officers, bursary staff, directors of works and physical planning, administrators, and other key stakeholders within the state’s tertiary education system.
She noted that the objective was to equip participants with practical strategies to promote transparency, accountability, and value-for-money in public spending, especially within academic institutions.
The Vice Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Prof. Allen Agih, who served as Chief Host, welcomed participants and stressed the importance of strict adherence to procurement principles. He described procurement compliance as a critical pillar for institutional efficiency and sustainable governance in tertiary education.
The lead facilitator of the workshop, Engr. Nelson Ojouboh, Head of Training at the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP) Abuja, delivered a technical presentation on current challenges in procurement systems.
He highlighted practical strategies and tools for re-engineering procurement processes in tertiary institutions to ensure better service delivery, improved accountability, and reduced inefficiencies in public expenditure.
The workshop, organized by the NDU Business School, aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening governance structures and improving service delivery across the education sector in Bayelsa State. Participants engaged in discussions on best practices for procurement management and institutional compliance.
The event attracted Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, and senior administrators from both state-owned and federal tertiary institutions.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving institutional governance frameworks and ensuring that public funds in the education sector are utilized effectively and transparently for maximum impact.
